2022 Ford Lightning

Ford lovers anticipated the release of the brand’s first electric, full-size pickup truck. Customers are pleased by the power and smooth ride that the 2022 F-150 Ford Lightning provides.

The four trims of the Ford F-150 Lightning are priced starting at:

Battery Capacity

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning features two battery options. The standard range battery provides 98-kilowatt hours and can drive 230 miles per charge.

The extended range battery provides 131-kilowatt hours and can drive 320 miles per charge. But, the loaded Platinum model can only travel 300 miles per charge.

Regardless of the battery you choose, your 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will have 775 lb-ft of torque and go from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.5 seconds or less. The standard range features 452 horsepower, and the extended range features 580 horsepower.

The vehicle features an independent rear suspension, which provides controlled handling and smooth towing.

Interior and Comfort

This electric truck is built for comfort. The Base Pro trim includes vinyl seats and rubber floors that make cleaning easy. The XLT offers stylish cloth seats, and the Lariat has heated and ventilated leather seats.

The Loaded Platinum trim features Nirvana leather with Active Motion massage for customers who want to splurge.

Technology and Infotainment

With the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, you can take advantage of one-pedal driving when not in off-roading mode.

Included trip-planning apps will plan your route and find charging stations along the way.

All trims have standard Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a built-in WiFi hotspot for up to 10 devices.

The Pro and XLT trim includes a 12-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4, while the Lariat and Platinum have 15.5-inch portrait screens. The larger screens have puzzle games to play while your car charges.

Cameras on this electric truck produce a 360-degree view, making parking and reversing safer and easier than in most vehicles.

Ford added a subtle white-noise feature to alert pedestrians of the oncoming vehicle.

Pros and Cons

Despite what many people expect from electric vehicles, the Ford F-150 Lightning is built tough. It is designed for off-roading with batteries and underbody protection from the elements. The truck features instantaneous torque and is more powerful than older F-150 models.

The electric engine provides a smoother ride than most Ford trucks.

The Ford F-150 Lightning has a lower ground clearance than most Ford trucks. Depending on the tire package, the clearance is eight to nine inches. This makes off-roading possible but more difficult.

Currently, no streaming services are available for the Ford F-150 Lightning. You can connect your phone to the built-in WiFi and stream that way, which is convenient.

Both CarBuzz and Motortrend were highly impressed with the early performance of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.

Jared Rosenholtz from CarBuzz said, “Ford’s electric truck is an affordable workhorse that will soon litter driveways, job sites, and charging stations around the U.S.”

Alisa Priddle of Motortrend said, “It is quicker, more responsive, and can tow and off-road as well as or better than comparable F-150s with combustion engines. And it has some perks from being electric that enhance the experience.”
