Yeah, I'm not that sophisitcated yet. haha

8-[ =;

34-105 metering block double check:

If I read right, the top and bottom small holes shown below should be opened up to 0.028 and the center blocked with an undrilled set screw, right?

10-4

I don't have a means to check the size of them or drill them right now, but will in the next few days.

Also I just went ahead and ordered the set screws from McMaster-Carr, as well as some aluminum bolts to plug the 4150 carb stud holes in the intake I will convert to a 4500.

Got a trick up my sleeve for opening up the carb pad.... hope it works as well as I think it will!

:-# ;-)

James those E-holes are already .028 so all you need to do is plug that center E-hole with a 3/16 long 6/32 set screw..

You also need to tap that lower hole so you can move the IJ to the bottom..

Did that last night!

Good news on the e-holes! I will double check them just to be sure though.

Also make sure you check those kill bleed holes as they usually get plugged when you open up the angle channel... Just a FYI =;

Checked! And everything has been thoroughly cleaned.

Now that everything is adjustable, I can start thinking about a base tune.

Where to begin? I've see some base tunes in the 2 circuit conversion thread, but am unsure exactly which one is THE base tune. haha

Additional info:
91-93 octane pump gas. (91 normally)
182 psi cranking pressure

Also, I assume most of you run at tracks with a much lower elevation than I normally run. How much (ballpark) will I need to adjust the base tune (which I assume is for low elevations or just above sea level) to get a good base tune for 3600'?

This was from a couple of years back on an old style 8896 with straight boosters. I'd start out a couple of numbers above this as you're not likely to hurt an engine running it a little rich.

All the part throttle tuneup stuff is usually a little on the lean side so I'd just use that baseline.

Taking a stab here and basically stealing nomad's junky 1050 carb setup as a starting point.

Looks like you got a big enough motor. So plug the front PVCR holes, insert a PV plug in the primary and square the jets. Get it running right first. We'll worry about the power valve later.

After reading the gasket thread and seeing how they can vary, I decided to tap the outside air bleed holes and put a blank set screw in there. Really more for my peace of mind than anything though.

Image

I also drilled my first set of set screws. Broke 1 bit. Boo. Learned very quickly that they will drill great until they start to break through. Then you have to be very careful!

My pin vise has not arrived, so I put the bits in my cordless drill and held the setscrews in my small tap handle. Worked very well.

Image

Hopefully my small bits and pin vise will be here today.

Pin vise and 61-80 bits arrived today. I drilled the MAB set screws to 0.028 without any problems by chucking the screw into the cordless drill as suggested in another thread.

I checked the holes in the bottom of my Quick Fuel emulsion bleeds and was surprised to find the top two on each set were 0.029 and the bottom hole in each set was 0.032. Kill bleeds were also larger than expected at 0.029. Looks like I will get to drill some more set screws.

6-32 set screws are ordered and should be here in a couple of days.
