Glad to speak with you again. By the way, the dyno muffler worked quite well. If I only want to see the lap line, I use the yellow as it is not aggressive and will really "shine" the seat. If I want to mate the two parts. I use the green can. I have actually used the yellow to polish crankshafts. Have also used car rubbing compound mixed in mineral spirits on cranks and valve seats. Some people use really aggressive valve lapping compound to remove metal. Valve lapping should never be accomplished in a unilateral spin (like with a drill motor). Should always be done like a agitator in a washing machine.

This may be a little off topic, I've used Comet Cleanser and WD40 to lap SS needle seats for my methanol carbs and that seems to work quite well. ;-)

time saver.... is the bomb . ive been preaching what your teaching for 20yrs.
and it still comes up .untill the mls gaskets came out everybody swore the wanted a rough ra 120 bridgeport cut on the heads to "grab" the gasket . now a mirror ra +15- finish is required
most of what we did was in the 20-30 range and only some oem gaskets failed with mls and required lower ..we never had a failure of valves or gaskets from being too smooth

All of this may be true above, but it still comes down to this: for those of us that trust our machine work to shops, we will never know the quality of seat work and seal without checking. After a bad intake seat on a brand new set of heads with just minutes on the engine running, I now hand lap every seat on any head to confirm the seal.

It's the only way to eliminate one more variable. My 1C

I use neway cutters and lap my seats when done, i just grab the head of the valve with my fingers and the valve stem with my other fingers and just lightly lap it it back and forth about 60 deg 8 times..
leaves a nice finish.
