I took the liberty of moving these posts out of the tuneup development thread and reposting them here as it's probably best to keep some of the off topic chatter out of that thread. Can't move them with original posters name but this should keep everyone happy as all those comments concerning E85 fuel sources etc are here.

Question, does anyone know what unleaded gas is used in the E85 mix, ie, 87 or 91 octane? I've got a cousin that works for a distribution center about 30 miles away that mentioned something about them having pure ethanol in bulk? Was wondering if I could buy bulk and mix my own with 91 octane? That way I'd be able to have better control over the mix.

Ken0069 If you can get it, its a great idea and you would have control of the octane and whats you use for the gas you mix in your e85. This would be the best of both worlds, you can have a race fuel and its still under the cost of a reg gal of gas. I know you run both gas and meth but i think meth is up to about 3.00 a gal now. Nomad was saying some of the guys were negative or did not care for e85 as a race fuel, i know QFT has them, but i have also have seen 2 or 3 from Patrick and one from Dale, so there must be a market out there for this fuel.

Yeah Ron, there was a time when I bought 4 each 60 gallon drums of methanol from Allan Gatt of Interstate Racing Fuels in Maryland for $365 shipped but those days are long gone. Around here there's several guys selling the stuff but the price has gone up to $3.15 a gallon and the closest reseller to me is hit or miss, ie, he doesn't always have the stuff to sell. The others that sell it are 60 to 80 miles away.

I'm trying to get in touch with my Uncle now to get my Cousin's phone number so I can see if the pure Ethanol is available. If it is then that would eliminate the "winter blend" issue that some have to deal with. With that distributor being around 30 miles from me I wouldn't have to worry about whether it's there or not when I needed it either.

At this point I'm just weighing options to see what is available.
