--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i started the 498 today for the 1st time. its a 13.5 motor with320 cc heads, 279 286 748cam on 110, drj ported edelbrock intake with a 1050 4500. sounds good. has 45 lbs hot at idle in gear with std ls6 pump. no leaks. i had to add a little idle speed and a bit more idle mixture than the 12 to 1 468 but its new. good so far . the old 468 ran a best of 9.69 , hopefully this is 3 or 4 tenths faster

its going in a 70 chevelle. a very nice car but back halved with stock front suspension. the front pushes a lot of air. it will have about 100 more hp than the 468 or 800 but im guessing 3 tenths faster max and 140 mph over the previous 468 that typically ran 133.what do you guys think?

.3 et and +7 mph sounds about right if it gains 100hp over the 468. Keep us posted on the results.
Are the 320 heads ported? Flow #'s? Valve sizes?

the heads are 1990 vintage brodix castings originally ported by afr in the same year. we redid the valve job and used angles recommended by mondellos porting supply and a radius cutter for the exhaust. the heads flowed a little over 370 and 300 @700. the port work and valve job picked up about 30 cfm on the intake and somewhat less onthe exhaust at mid lift. i need to get the figures out.the intake was ported by dr j. 279 286 on 110 with 749 lift. a little over 13 to 1. comp belt drive,je pistons, callies crank and rods, 1050, 2 i/8 headers with a merge collector going from 3 1/4 to 4 inches

i finally ran at the track today. unfortunately it was all 1/8 mile. i wanted to run the 1/4 to get some tuning done and get the throttle stop figured out for the next divisional race. i left the stop on. it ran 2-3 hundreths quicker every pass. the lat was a 7.098 with 2 seconds of timer. should run 6 0's wot in the same conditions which were low 90's 29.95 and 75% humidity. the data logging quit on my fast meter so i need to get that fixed. should be ready to tune next time
