Here are the engine mounts and mid plate.

I will be welding the a-arms this week and working on the steering.

Yes, Gentlemen, The goal is a 555-582 BBC. At least all my research points in that direction. With my body weight of 275 lbs I figure that is what it will take to go 4.70-4.79.

Looks good so far ... When you mounted the motor plates did you have the rear end in place with an alignment bar from the pinion running through the main journals of the block ?

Duane:
I used an aluminum tube that was bolted thru the main caps and centered through the drive shaft loop. I am trying to find an old 9" case to check it with before I weld the mounts. They are just tacked right now.

I would love to run hat injection, but everyone seems to think that a 4500 carb on alky is faster. Go figure.

depends what you want really, personaly I wish I'd built my motor for alky and gone injected straight away but  I got a pump gas motor running 8.4's and it gets the job done and is fairly cheap on fuel ....but a carbs kinda boring in comparison to going blown or injected....not much of a wow factor with single plane manifold and carb...

Talk to Ron Owens about the Hat setup.  He had one and swears by them!  He also can probably give you a tuneup that will work with that engine size.

I like the carbs myself but only if you're running duals as sometimes it's hard to get enough fuel thru a single without jumping thru some hoops.

This has been interesting. I had to do some shimming to get the alignment correct. I will have to move one tab on the right side forward about .100" .  Once that is done I can weld the tabs to the frame.

I also got to tap a Big Duke intake manifold today for injection nozzles for a friend. I did it on my vertical milling machine. It turned out nice.

Looks good, thats why we use an alignment bar with a pinion support mounted on the end of it.

Your project is coming along great and thanks for keeping us posted !!

Ken:
I called Ron and we had a nice, long discussion about hat injection.
Thanks, for the tip.

Worked on the engine mounts on Thanksgiving. Level the engine fore & aft. Then made sure it was level across the chassis.

Image

Here is a shot of the ignition panel I installed Thanksgiving day. I had to modifiy another set of tabs I had. The original ones were too short. I tacked the rack & pinion mounts in. Welded the steering column up. The spindles have been back ordered so I am working around them.

Image

I installed the Dzus plates for the interior this morning and worked on the interior panels. The dash will have to wait till I can sit in the car to figure out the pedal length, etc. The carbon fiber seat arrived broken by good ole' Fed Ex. Another work around.

This shot shows the interior better. Slowly, but surely it is coming along.
I have adjustable pedal mounts to go under the floor panels.

It is amazing how many offers I have had for someone to drive the dragster. They just can't ever seem to get over here when I need some help.   :-  =;  =;  :-$
