Here is a pic of the swing arm. There is a Harbor Freight Tools near here and I have spent a few coins buying clamps and the welding magnets. It takes alot of magnets and tie downs to pull the rear top rail in place. CM is some springy stuff!

One thing I have done is that when I cut the C channel crossmembers I put a saw cut exactly in the middle of each crossmember. Just enough cut to go through the steel on top. This allows me to place the end of the tape in the slot to measure to each rail. I also use a 12" set of dial calipers if I am serious about both rails being even. :-k

Is there any droop or twist built into this chassis?

Yes, there is 1" of "preload" built into the front half of the dragster. O:)

any stagger built into the front end ?

what rod are you using with the moly, ?

you gonna run it bare, paint or powder ?

No stagger, ER80S-D2 filler rod, 2 part Epoxy paint for the frame.

You can run the tugsten out a long ways to weld in tight corners and still get plenty of gas coverage. Example: Welding the diagonals on this frame.

nice looking rail you got going on there! i run a gas lens setup on my tig as well, and i will never go back! makes getting in them corners a breeze!

er-80s-d2??? isn't that just mild steel rod? i have tiged moly in the past and just used my mild steel rod. didn't know if it was correct, but that's what i used. i would hafta check the number to see what it was for sure though.

I have used CM filler rod. but was told not to use it unless I was going to stress relieve the welds. S&W said to use ER70S-D2 or the ER80S-D2 filler rod. I have both and they are mild steel. I had not used a gas lens till this project and it makes for a better weld.

Yes it's time for an update. This is the kind of post that gives hope to the ones that haven't tackled a big project, and the joy of it with out getting sparks down the top of their shoes to those that have.

I envy you for the feeling your going to have when you get this project done. It's a good feeling to say I built that. No matter how many times you do it.

Guys:
        The new top rails arrived today. They are tacked in place now and this project is back on course.

My friend that had loaned me his rotissere had to have it back. (I originally sold it to him and I borrowed it when I needed it.) So I went to Harbor Freight and bought two engine stands. I cut them and added 6 inches to the height and stood the heads up straight so they would be inline with one another. It is not as nice as the one I borrowed, but it will do for this project. Besides they were only $40 each.

I will take some more pics and post them soon.

I have another shipment of parts for this project due next week. I should be tacking up the chassis, less roll cage, next week. The spindles, seat, bulkhead, and a whole bunch of brackets for mounting everything.
I will then mount it on the rotisserie to finish weld the chassis. I am gonna save the cage till last so I can get a correct height for my 6 foot carcass.
