So how'd it run? Are those headlights on the front?

Yes, Chuck, those are headlights on the front. I do not want to get run over by a doorslammer on the return lane. The car goes 5.0's in cool weather and 5.10's in hot weather. Best run has been 5.001 in March. I weigh 275 lbs, the car has never been weighed, but I know it's got to be heavy with me.

John

The 1st time I saw headlights on a dragster was at Clay City. Curvy dark return road. The guy that talked me into going said you can tell a guy is a regular at the track when you see something like a headlight on a dragster.

So close to a 4 you can taste it huh?

Yea, Chuck, The dragster does not have enough gear with a 4:11 gear and a 33.5" tall tire. I am changing over to hat injection at this time and I am thinking about a 4:56 gear. The engine never goes over 6800 rpms with the 4:11.

I wouldn't go more than a 4:30 on the gear! I know a couple of guys that have changed to lower gear and slowed down.

NA alky BBCs don't like a lot of RPM and from what I've read, about 7k is the limit and after that they fall off real bad on it. Something to do with the volume of fuel in those big ports. If you'll notice, even sprint car engines have the nozzles in the head right above the intake valve for that reason.

Ken:
I originally planned to put a 4:30 gear in the car and a friend talked me out of it. I regret that now. Do you really think the 4:30 gear would take it to 7000 rpm?

I would try the new set up with the gear that's in it now then do the math on your finish line rpm. A 4.30 gear is about 4.5 percent lower than a 4.11 so your finish line would change from 6800 to 7100 and a 4.56 would raise it to 7550.

Chuck:
That sounds like a plan. We will see how much rpm I have after I run the dragster with the hat injection. I figure it should add about 50 hp if I am lucky.

I agree with Ken the 4:30 is the ticket, 4:56 gears do work but you will twist it pretty high and its something a sbc would like. But in my case I like stuff to last a long time so 6800 was something Id like lol

Not up on the hat injection but can tell ya my rons terminator is worth a lot over a tuned on rupert gas carb. I dont think 4.9's will be much of a issue. \:D/

Well, I made three passes on the hat injection last night. I took 2 degrees of timing out to be on the safe side. The car went a best of : 095 jet, 60 ft: 1.115, 330 ft: 3.239, 660 ft: 5.039, 660 mph: 136.17. Somewhere I lost 200 rpm. Tach only showed 6660 rpm max rpm. That is a 1/10 better than with the carb. I will have do some more work with the injection and gearing to get it where I need it.

Well guys the car has been parked since July of 2009. My wife was laid off from her job and the racing funds are gone. She will run again with the economic picture is brighter again. I still have my hand in the chassis business. Really miss it. #-o

John, I hate to hear that. But at least you still have the car.
