I've been on the same two yellow tops that were originally in my car when I got it. That's bout 8 years with me, and who knows how long they were used before then? No alternator, I charge them at 40 amp rates, cause I'm sensitive to their needs :-& . If I was a hard ass I'd put the 200 amps to em and let em ride! O:) =;

I think my yellow top is about done. Been in the car two years. The first year I was running a 140 amp alternator but I would leave the bottle heater on fot extended times when the car wasn't running.Last year I didn't run an alternator and would put a 40 amp charger on it between rounds. Last week it was dead and I put a charger on it. I didn't fully charge it just enough to start and move the car around. I was seting up a datalogger and kept starting the car over the weekend with the charger on it and running the fans fuel pump and water pump ect. The voltage after the charger was removed was only 11.5. Hopefully it will recover but I have a feeling I will be replacing it this week.

You probably shouldn't be using a deep cell if running an alternator...
