BBR - Sorry, we all really do understand. We're all just having a little fun.

Bruce - It ran well once I added enough idle fuel. It's amazing what a difference it makes once all four of the transition slots are properly positioned and aren't .040 exposed with the blades fully closed. For the initial swap I ended up having 3.25 turns out on all the mixture screws to get it to idle. That was with .036 IFR and .059 IAB, so next time I fire the car I'm moving up to a .040 IFR and I'll see where I end up with the mixture screws.

:- :- My 1250 QFX body is basically still in the box O:) ...Could not find anyone to cut down the skirt
on the banjo's but that's done now so hope to get it together sometime this winter...
Also I just heard that the FED'S just seized Idleand dragway for not paying income tax O:)
SOOOOOOOO there may not be an Island Dragway in 2013 ](*,) ....So looks like my
racing will be very limited for sure...

Ok I fail. Spent pretty much the whole day doing front yard work I have been neglecting for several weeks. I have 12 huge bags of mulched leaves I have to do something with now. Yarly. Supposed to be cold tomorrow so I don't know if I'll work on it or not.

Oh boy.

So today was a total fail. Topped off the coolant and finished up the carb install. Turned on the fuel pump and fuel starts running out of the bottom of the secondary bowl. Pulled the bowl off and realized the accelerator pump screws were too long and were bottoming in their holes. I added some washers and that was fixed. Double checked everything and hopped in the car and pumped the throttle. No pump shot. What the heck? Fiddled around and found that the accelerator pump check valves were stuck. Fixed that. Hit the key and the motor turned over about half a turn. What the heck? Pulled all 8 plugs because I feared I might have water in a cylinder from the intake swap. Spun the motor over and fuel sprayed out of some of the cylinders. What the heck? Put it all back together and tried to fire it up. Ran like crap missing and smoking. Cylinders 1,2 and 5 were not hitting. Cold header tubes. I checked for spark, spark was fine. Plugs were pretty wet with fuel. What the heck? Decided maybe the 50cc accel pumps were just too much so I pulled the carb off to swap them and to install the standard secondary linkage. Popped off the primary bowl and found my problem. I forgot to put the power valve plug in it so fuel was running right into the motor. What the heck? Oil smells a little fuely (or maybe that was my hands) so I'm going to change it before I proceed. What a wasted afternoon.

Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. Haha.

Don't feel too bad about it James. I built a Power Glide for a friend years ago and left the reverse ring gear out when I put it back together! He called me when it wouldn't back out of the shop. I went and looked in my shop and there was the ring gear on the work bench! [-(

Just be glad it didn't fire with that much fuel in the cylinders. Hydrostatic lock with hork up MUCH stuff!

The PV plug was in the 950 and my intent was to swap it to the 1050 and I just plain forgot. I did not mess with it today it was cold and windy outside so I just stayed where it was warm. It is supposed to be nice this week though.

I think we all have days like that every once in a while. You just have to look for the positive and be thankful you didn't hurt your engine or yourself. When I have a day like that I try to think of some of my good luck days. One that comes to mind was a freshen up we were doing on one my dad's hemis way back. I was washing the crank for reassembly and somehow saw a hairline crack in the radius of one of the rod journals. O:) We were about to travel well over a thousand miles to Gainesville, Fl. That would have been an expensive disaster and a long trip home. Good luck with your carb. Keep us updated.

Great success!

I changed the oil in the Mustang because it was super gassy.

Checked everything over something like 10 times then hit the starter. It lit right off and once I set the timing and backed off the butterfly screws a bit, it settled into a nice 1100 rpm idle with a happy 15:1 afr.

Throttle response is NOW! I did not get to drive it yet as I am still working on a hood clearance solution.

CONGRATULATIONS!! \:D/ It's always nice to hear these success stories! Did you get that "warm and fuzzy" feeling listening to it idle? Probably sounded a little smoother than the other carb too I'd bet.

RE: That 15:1 idle AFR. You "may" find that to be a touch lean once you start driving it. Just be prepared to add a little fuel there if needed. ;-)

Awesome =D> =D> =D> =D>
Get ready for no fouled plugs, \:D/ steady AFR's \:D/ and using less fuel. \:D/
That's what I found, and I hope yours is the same.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!! And as Ken said it may be lean at idle and I found out that they seem to like 14ish at Idle..

Congrats! It's a great feeling to have it fire and run clean. My 2 circuit E85 carb is awesome and I just put together a 1050 gas carb that I'm itching to try next spring after the snow melts.
