Post subject:  1050 VS 1150

I bolted on my 1150 on to ant's Nova yesterday in a hope to have it run 140+mph but didn't.. Not quiet sure but is it possible it's to big for his combination? We didn't get to much time to swap jets but it has 94 jets in it and although he liked the way it idles and runs and he did say it is easier to stage with it running clean. It just didn't perform like I though it would. May be to big?? To much jet?

The 1050 is a 3 circuit from GW with 92 jets and it does not have annular boosters..

His engine specs..
502 BB2 plus heads
14 to 1 compression
274/278 @50
740/740 lift
And I am thinking 2800lbs ladder bar
180 gear set with 456 12 bolt going threw at 7000+rpms

I'm assuming he doesn't have a wide band so the only way to know where you are is plug reading and or the time slip. Remember the procedure, ie, richen it up until it slows down then back it down to find that sweet spot.

He has my LM1 and bungs in his pipes (not installed yet :- )so it was a Old school test but we did bolt his 1050 back on and it ran faster even with a better short time O:) .....Needless to say I was not to happy about the outcome... =P~

BUT YOU'RE NOT DONE TUNING IT!!! You got to play with the MJ to find out what it wants down track.

My guess is that will annular boosters you "might" wind up with something near what he's running with that 3 circuit carb but take it rich first so you know where you are.

Yea ran out of time and the "Old School" throttle linkage is what you may find on a Go Kart.. :-# :- :-

Hope to get out next week.......Sunday to test again....

Forgot to say it was -150 almost all day with a lot of sun so track was good \:D/

He must be running a R&M Super Series 502.

502 BB2 plus heads
14 to 1 compression

740/740 lift

I have GW to thank for learning about carbs. I think he converted Scott Smith into a carb guy, too.

Only problem is you can't talk to him on the phone about his carbs running idling like junk...And can't
even talk to him about a 2 circuit :- ...Ask Scott =;

I always lean it down until it slows then richen it back up a bit. Going too rich makes small changes in ET, going lean will show up much better. Just a couple of jets down from ideal can be a big drop in HP. And nope, I've NEVER seen a burnt piston drag racing.

As far as 1050 vs 1150 ...

I've seen 1050's pick up ET and mph in sbc's making 550-600hp, so I don't think there is any way a 1150 is too big for a 502ci bbc if the 1150 is built and tuned right.
