hey guys, im getting plans ready to do my big block build and the Eagle rotating assebly im going to go with has a 12.7:1 w/118cc head or 11.8:1 w/124cc head. I DO plan on driving this truck on the street and going on cruises with it etc BUT i also am going to be using this as a pretty serious bracket truck as well, so im gonna want as much compression as i can safely get by with while still being able to drive it on the street.

ive been TOLD by some pretty knowledgeable motor heads that E-85 fuel with that amount of compression is still streetable. I cant find much to research online for that so ive come here for opinions and thoughts.

There is another option for the competition rotating assembly with much lower compression ratios that range from 10.7:1 w/112cc head to 10.2:1 w/118cc head or down to 9.7:1 w/124cc head , but i dont feel that will be enough compression to get me up into the power range im wanting for this engine.



So if any of you guys are knowledgeable in E-85 fuel and what kind of compression it can run and still be streetable then your who id like to see reply to this. Until i get an affirmative on this i wont order anything as id hate to spend 2500 bucks on a rotating assy i cant run on the street with E-85.

I just ran my 461 CI SB2.2 engine yesterday, a 1050 with E85 thru a throttle stop. I dialed the stop in, last pass 8.887@164. With the stop off I ran a string of runs from 4.917 to 4.933 1/8 mile. Oh and the engine is 15.5 to 1... O:)

We've run it at 13.2 and 14.5 to 1 on two other engines. I think you'll be fine. ;-)

holy crap, E-85 is safe for as high as 15.5:1?!?!?!?!

However, will the street part of it still be an issue or not? Will that high of compression have any adverse effects on streetability etc

Up to 14 to 1 I can't imagine any issues. I had my 13.2 to 1 engine so lean due to a bad regulator it was surging on track and never hurt it. Above 14 to 1 you just need to keep an eye on thi he until the tune is correct, and watch the gas/ethanol percentages.

ok sweet, and how can i check gas/alcohol percentages? is there some kind of tester i can buy or something of that nature. i know they can vary from like 70% to 90% alcohol

im gonna run a demon E-85 carb, i talked with demon this past summer and they said theyd have them avail hopefully by fall, havent checked back yet though...will check now

You got a carb now? Convert that.

i do but its a 600 cfm quadrajunk......not nearly enough for what im gonna do
