I finally got to dyno my SB2 yesterday and test a few carbs and fuels. No timing or cam timing changes, may be a little there yet, but wanted to get some carbs in the ballpark. Thanks to Mike Laws and the staff at BLP, it was a really good day overall. These are the highlight pulls of the day.

Baseline 1250 on Sonoco Maximal, same carb I dynoed with the first time with this engine. Looks to be around 16 HP and around 25 ft lbs better, I think the cam change did most of it.

This is a QFX body 1050 on Q16, may be my small block challenge carb this year.

This was the best pull of the day, a QFX body 1450 I machined a bit on the venturi to lower it. Q16 for fuel.

Thanks for posting these Mark, I always like seeing dyno tests. Can you post the engine specs ... cam, heads (flow? csa?), intake, headers etc.

Was this done on the inertia dyno?

That's a nice sbc, very good numbers.

4.155 x 4.25 461 ci, 9.500 deck aluminum block, RFD ported SB2.2 heads, 691 intake modified for a Dominator and ported by me. Cam is a Bullet, 311/319, 277/286 @ .050, .844/.844, 111 LSA in at 109. As you can see a variety of carbs were used. Headers are 2 x 2 1/8 step.

A little update on my engine. I still can't drive for another month, but was able to find a driver to run it at the Night of Fire the last two days in Orlando. Friday we made two passes, the first was an 8.02, the second was aborted as the driver said the engine was vibrating bad. We expected the worst, but pulled plugs and looked it over and found nothing. Started it up, and one of the guys with us spotted arcing from the #1 wire to the head and one other, as it was dark at this point. So I had an old set of wires, swapped them and since we were done for the night just took a quick spin and seemed better. Next morning the first pass down the track was a 7.61 @ 173, Final pass below. The driver is about 60 lbs heavier than I am, car and driver at 1850 lbs, and on the best run below temps were between 75-80˚. So there is a little left in it, in good air with me in it I see some 40's coming soon. Best MPH all out was 174.17. Carb is the 1450 QFX body I reworked, on Q16, intermediate circuit plugged off...

One thing that may have played into the AFR #'s moving around on the dyno was the possibility of intermittent misfire. We had one aborted pull that had #1 going dead lean, a misfired cylinder. Never found the issue as the rest of the pulls looked fine, at least until now. New wires will be on it for the next race.

Thats good. hey with the leads, before they actually arc they 'leak' energy effecting the burn, so new leads all round should do it some good.
