Thought Id have a go, Bit hard because we have never had some of these engines here. I had to deduce things like why would they fit 3 carbs to a small engine or a blower onto a 390 cuber with a 2barrel!!! that's ridiculous for the factory to do so I scored pretty well on the deduction ones. Ha Ha. I got 74% right.

Yeah guys, you done good considering that you've probably never seen most of these engines. Me, in my 66 years I've pretty much seen them all. Funny, the older I get the more those memories mean to me! My brother in law and I were talking Sunday about a couple of the old Phord engines. He mentioned that one of his friends had a 58 Phord years ago, which brought back memories of the first in the FE engines Phord made, which I believe was 352 ci. The year before that it was the "Y" block 312 ci that had a Paxton supercharger option in 1957.

This car, a 1957 Phord 300 sedan was originally out of Orlando Fl and owned by Chuck Messer. Back in the 1960s it was a NHRA National Record holder. Rodger Sprouse, here in Virginia wound up with the car and the only thing that's been changed on it is from a 4 speed to an automatic transmission. I actually raced against this car back in the mid 1960s at New London Dragway here outside Lynchburg, Va and I have a picture of it somewhere in the house!! It is a factory original Paxton supercharged 312 ci "Y" block engine and has been a race car from day one.

Here's a bit more info on this car from ... atdetid=28

Oh, and notice the red 57 Chevy through the window? That is the original "Chevy Quarter Horse" C/Gas car that ran here locally too. That car was originally a Hilborn Injected SBC of undisclosed cu in. This car was the first I ever saw with a Phord Econoline straight axle under the front end. I have a picture of it too...........somewhere here in the house. :-k

That old stuff is cool. the GM stuff for me was the hardest to get in that game because none of it came here. Ford did sell a car called a Galaxie here with BB's in them and they sold the 1962 Fairlane with the 332. We call them tank Fairlanes. but GM didnt sell anything. Its only since people have gotten into classic cars etc that they arrived here. Chrylsler sold Phoenix with the 383 in it here.

I like reading about the stories of what guys did in the early days, thats when hotrodding was real to me. People had to make their own stuff and develop new ideas, a time of innovation not bank accounts.
