Looks like I've got another inch of hood clearance with this intake and I was wondering how much air filter area would be needed for an 8,000 RPM 434 CID engine?

Looks like I'm going to have about 3.5 inches of hood clearance at the front of the air horn. Had thought at one time that one of the old Phord try power oval filters could be made to work but don't know what the actual air flow rating is on one of those.

Anyone got any numbers or suggestions for something that might work?

hey Ken,i run a drop base moroso bottom with a 4" K&N filter and a K&N extreme filter lid and the car actually went faster than with no air cleaner at all,i was told it was due to air buffeting over the carb at high speed

Yeah, some of us with data loggers have seen some dramatic changes in AFRs down track because of the turbulent air around the top of the carb. That's one of the reasons I want to run a filter on my engine this time around. The other is to keep crap out of the engine.

My alky Dominators with PCI Super Bowls are over 15 inches long and way too long for a drop base filter. Anything I do will have to be at the air horn level and up.

Dropped base for a 16" filter ain't gonna work. This Dominator carb is 15" long so it won't fit down over this carb. Gonna have to make something flat to mount to the air horn. Thanks for the link though as there's some other interesting stuff there. ;-)
