Racers,
Since we are not supposed to run anti-freeze, let’s talk about cooling system anti-corrosion products. In addition, let’s make this specific to aluminum/iron combinations. (Since this is mostly what we run)

For the last 10 years or so I have used distilled water and assorted “anti-corrosion, cooling enhancing” type products.
Let me hear what some of you are using.
Thanks

Since I run outlaw tracks all the time I run anti-freeze as I have been known to race well into freezing over night temps in both spring and fall. Never had a track tell me not to run it, so I run it in a 50/50 mix with water.

If there's something else out there that's as cheap as anti-freeze with the anti-corrosive additives my engine needs then I might consider it.

Last year I started running a gallon of antifreeze in mine for the corrosion protection. I run a big radiator and that gallon probably puts me at a 30% or less mix. I use zerex G05 long life and the color is supposed to be gold but it's so light it's almost clear so I think tech wouldn't catch it if they did look.

Now before anyone thinks I'm having a dig... I'm not.. but you'd all probably change your minds about anti freeze if you ever hit any at the big end.. that stuff may not even show on the track and it does not feel slppy to the touch but rub some rubber across it and its worse than oil.. turned my car completely sideways at 1000 feet (read 150 plus). some road car dropped it..

Oh and its not easy to mop up..

I doubt there would've been any difference if it was water or anti freeze Sam. It's a bad deal when there is any liquid left on the track. I put my old car on it's roof because of transmission fluid that was left by the car that went out in front of me. I don't think there's any way you can make transmission fluid less slippery or motor oil for that matter. The only time my car has leaked coolant was because of a rusted expansion plug and I feel like that's less likely with anti freeze in it. I know the anti freeze is harder to clean up and I'm sure that's why the tracks discourage using it. I didn't take your post as a dig and hope you don't take mine as one. It's just another point of view ;-) .
