Without more information about the engine or intended usage, it's hard to give a specific answer, so I'll give a more general answer. Guessing you have a sbc in your truck.

If the engine is mostly stock or very mild sbc, I'd go with the 1-5/8". If your engine has a single plane manifold, bigger cam and stall converter and the engine is fairly big, you could run a 1-3/4".

As far as the gain, don't expect miracles with any bolt on parts. Gaining a few tenths would be a good gain for adding headers. It's been so long since I did that change alone, I don't remember any specific test.

Rick

yeah, its an iron headed small block, straight plugged heads, dual plane, VERY mild cam, small if any stall converter on it.

I would suggest buying 1 5/8" headers for now ( 1 1/2" if you can find them ) as any larger will kill what low end you now have. They arent that expensive.

I've dealt with Ed aka headers by ed, in the past . I liked dealing with him because he would give practical advice and wouldn't just tell you what you want to hear. If you give the man specific info on what you have he will steer you straight on what you need. I believe he only sells header parts for those who choose to build thier own headers. Thats what I've bought from him. He is a little long-winded but seems to know what he's talking about.

I wouldnt expect it to be affected a whole lot by the 1 5/8" .. I made that statement towards the 1 3/4" headers if you were considering them.
