You are doing your last minute check before leaving for a long weekend of racing out of state and you find this at 4pm.

Lucky I have been through this last year twice. So I made a quick trip to TSC. They keep them on hand . The only thing is they come in sets of two. So it cost a lot. The bearings are already packed and the rear bearing and seal already installed. They also come with lug nuts and bearing cap. I guess when I get back I'll change out the last one and be done with it. LOL

It could have been worse, it could have waited till you were halfway to the track and to come apart.

If you put the new one in the trailer the last old one will last forever! =;
But if you must put the new one on, do yourself a favor and carry the old one in the trailer for a spare.

I'm not as lucky as you, my stuff never breaks in the driveway!!

I hope your luck follows you to the track and y'all have a great weekend!

Good point Donee. I'll do that. I also keep a back plate with the brakes on it from a change on my old trailer. I think it broke when we went racing last week. Thanks for the good luck. It should be awesome. NMCA final and LSX final at Indy. A great way to end the season.

I was told years ago that if you need to change one drum to change all of them and save the ones that look good enough to save......I am with Donee as long as you carry a spair it will never break unless your carrying a tire then sometimes you need a couple O:) ..

You know what else I hate? Waiting until the last minute to check things I shoulda' checked sooner and then find something wrong. ](*,)

I have never seen a drum crack like that but I did have a rotor on the Probe crack. I still have the one that didn't crack in the trailer for a spare.

I would agree that having a spare prevents the need for it but that didn't work for me with trailer tires. I blew one out on the way to Indy last year and asked my son to bring me an extra tire when he drove up the next day. Sure enough I blew out another one about 1/2 way home. I had to break out the redneck tire changer because that one wasn't on a rim. Hmmm, maybe that's why I had to use it.

My Pace trailer is a 1994 model and I've never had that happen on it. I've owned 3 used trailers since I bought that one new and never had that happen on those either?

So what causes those drums to break like that? :-k

I can honestly say I have never seen that before. I would be curious what might have been the cause. How old were the drums?

I have been to trailer races and the damage is much worse than that. If youve never seen trailer races it is kind of a rolling demo derby on a dirt track with pickups and you must pull a trailer of some kind. Its a redneck thing.

I was just relating this to my past experience.

When I was a kid and started racing, my race car was my work car and every time something on my car broke my Dad would blame it on racing. Most of the time it was a direct result of racing, (transmission, rearend, clutch) but it got to be a standing joke when he started blaming anything (starter, alternator, heater blower motor?) that went wrong on racing or hot rodding.

So when anything breaks I immediately blame it on racing, until it can be proven otherwise!

Just the way I was raised. =;

I'm guessing they are old drums. It is a 91 trailer. Like I said this is the 3rd one to do it. Racing causes everything LOL. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
