The June 2nd SCS was our first official race with the newly completed rebuild of the HFR Malibu.

First qualifier it kicked the tires in the heat. Still working on a hot track setup.

Second qualifier we found a tune to get down the track. Slower, but went point A to B. Car ran a 5.328 @ 130.91 good enough for the second qualifying spot.

First round we simply wanted to repeat our first run before putting more power back in. I staged the car, held down the t-brake button and when I went to full throttle the engine fell on it's face. The engine refused to clean up and come up on the brake. I tried to wait thinking it might clear out, but it didn't seem to want to cooperate.

Looks like we still have some work to get the car in better competitive form. Plenty of potential, just need more laps to re-learn the car setup under varying conditions.

Here's two in car videos of the two qualifying passes. Lost the first round one run somehow.

The class had 13 cars show up and qualify. Should be a real competitive class once all the racers dial their rides in.

Congrats to Marc McCloud on the win and Mike Barry for the R/U.

Looking forward to racing with all the U/S guys next time out.

Todd

Only time this has happened. Have a TON of timing out with a launch retard which is why I believe it acted that way. Had never taken that much timing out before and it bit me.

Puffing? don't get it.

Pulling a lot of timing out will make the O2 not read the same. The puff I am referring to is the second vid, you can see it better on this one Just saying it looks rich on mixture but pulling that much timing may do that also.. What are you running for a carb??

Lets just say it's a dominator. Too many people on here that like to bash carbs & builders, so I'm not going there.

Crisp and clean on the brake when I only take 12 to 14 degrees out on the launch. This run was in the heat with well over half the base timing taken out on the launch, closer to 2/3 taken out. Timing comes out as soon as the t-brake is pressed, starts to ramp once the button is released.

Lesson learned is the car doesn't like that much out, so we gotta find another method on hot track days.

The first in car had only 14 deg out, the second much more.

I would guess your not using any type of O2 or EGT as you didn't answer my original question so you really don't know how rich it is at Idle or on the TB or when it's released...
There is a lot of info there and may pick you up some in the short time and ET with some tuning ...
Go ahead and just say who's carb it is =;

Here's two more videos. The first is the second qualifier, the other is first round where it wouldn't go on the brake cleanly.

No wide band.

My dominator is sort of the same, but lean at idle it wont go up on brake straight away.
Filming mine and you can hear it rev a bit then squirters run out then falls into a big hole and takes 2 seconds to recover tried larger squirters no difference.
I have to bring revs up to get main circuit working before smashing the throttle.
I need to get a wide band also.

Looks good. Not bad for your first outing. I'm sure you will get it figured out quick. ;-) That is a lot of power getting to the ground. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
