One of the things that fascinate me are parts we use that actually have another use. You know, the stuff that comes in a slick bubble pack priced for beaucoup bucks. Then we see it at the hardware store for peanuts. With all of us looking for a way to try out racing costs maybe we can post a list those parts we know about and where to get them. I'll start. http://www.mcmaster.com/#cadinlnord/6058k32/=gwmyfwThis is a quick disconnect carb linkage usually found in throttle stop kits. This one looks to be $4.50 or so. bought a few extras for spares.

Yup, that one looks exactly like the one on my Pro-Start air cylinder. And this goes along with the deal where someone found the BG pump seals and was selling them for like $14 a couple of years back. It'll be interesting to find out what others are doing on this.

Mine is mounted to my shifter and it's broken the switch a couple of times when the shifter gets shook because of a faceplate failure. I remember discovering from a friend of mine that was into round track racing that a lot of the same parts we use for drag racing were a lot less money if you bought them from a roundy-round shop.

Beretta wrote: Yeah Barry, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I wonder if this stuff is available from Graingers? Those seem to be in every big town. Chuck your buddy is right about the curcle track stuff. Some if it is cheaper. Also you find things we don't see in places we usually look.

I've been buying parts from McMaster Carr for years. Sometimes it takes some time to narrow down exactly what your looking for, but almost everything hardware related is in their catalog. Usually the challenge is knowing what they call it and sorting through 100's of options. I don't degrudge other speed outlets packaging and selling these items for a profit, but usually, that's all they're doing and you can save 50% by searching. One of the biggest items I finally found was the small dzus fasteners that many chassis shops use for their dash covers. I talked to a major shop 4-5 years ago about getting a few spares and they were asking $75 for 4 buttons and springs. After searching for a while, I found a direct source and could purchase 10 of each for under $30.

Hi Ken, Behrents.com or Panelfast.com, they are both the same company. The dzus is 1/4 x .400 and is part # PAN4400 ( $1.07 each) and the springs are part # PAN SSS3225 (Also about $1 each). There are other dzus widths, reach and spring sizes available.

This place is local to Mark and I: http://milspecproducts.com/They handle the dzus fasteners in all configurations. We've been to the place itself. It's full of fasteners. BTW, the flush we here use the most is the 6.5 used mostly on WWII aircraft. What you see from the other places is 5 or 6. Obviously, length has to be configured. I now use aircraft bolts in my chassis wherever possible. I try to avoid any threads in the hole. I need to get an aircraft bolt "grip gauge" to help me select what I need. There's a place close to me in Lakeland called Aeromech. http://www.aeromech-inc.com/retailparts.htmthey are darn friendly.

Thanks Bruce, I always love to add these potential sources to the list. It's getting sad, sometimes I enjoy the build more than driving.

I used one of these 12v solenoid operated valves to operate the air shifter cylinder that is mounted in the shifter on my dragster. The ACD unit that came with it was too bulky to mount so I got this instead and it works great triggered by the MSD Digital 7 Ignition box. Small, light weight and easy to mount. And did I mention that it was cheap at under $20 shipped. http://www.allair.com/svalve/I-Solenoid-spec-3V1.htm
