RIP Grumpy. =P~

His book has been at the top of my reading list for many years. He figured stuff out like nobody else. He was THE small-block Chevy master.

A quote from another site about some of the things he developed.
Quote:
Jenkins developed drag racing's first dry-sump oiling system, the first kick-out oil pans and Pro Stock's strut-style front suspension, gas port pistons, slick-shift manual transmissions and the electric water-pump fan.

RIP Grumpy!!

I posted some pics of him back in his "younger days" that I took at Bristol in I think it was 1972 or 73? Here's that link for those of you who didn't see them the first time.

R.I.P. Grumpy, you always got the crowd on there feet! \:D/

I was fortunate to see Bill with his Vega at Budd's Creek in the early 70's, and I saw the Camaro(1974 or 75 model year Camaro)? at Capital raceway back in the early 70's and boy, was THAT a magical time for drag racing!!! ;-)

I remember the dry hops they used to do all the time too, soo cool.

I see that Buddy Ingersoll passed away too!!!! R.I.P. Buddy, your were a great innovator. =D>

RIP Buddy and yes, quite the innovator in his day!!

Got to see his Buick Regal with the injected twin turbos on the V6 run at Rockingham back around 83 and that thing was "BITCHIN". Glidden had qualified #1 in the 3rd round of qualifying @ 7.21 and Ingersoll proceeded to go out and run a 7.19!! Glidden was livid and was straight to the tower pissing, moaning and crying about the turbo V6. NHRA threw out Ingersoll's run claiming that the run was a "rear wheel start"?? Car was quick, but not quicker than the speed of light!! Cry babby won on that one and I never had much respect for him after that!

Glidden, Johnson, Shepard and others bitched so much during that season that NHRA wouldn't allow him to run it any more. I've got pics of that thing around here somewhere. :-k

I felt so empty when Ronnie Sox passed away, and again that feeling is there with Da Grump too!!! =P~
We all gotta go I guess. I wonder what Grumpy died from if anything specific?
I have Grumpy's diecast of his 67 Camaro and I wanted to get him to sign it, guess it will never happen now! at least I have it.

Ken, or anyone else, I want to know, who the (ALLEN) was on the Glidden & Allen team duo??? anyone know? I don't think it was Bruce Allen from the pre R&M team.. and what ever happened to the Allen person from the team?

That would be Ray Allen who was the car owner. If memory serves, he also owned and drove an SS/EA 70 Chevelle 454 Convertible that was a National Record holder at one time. He also won Pro Stock @ the 1972 US Nationals.
