Figured this out. Got a couple of empty methanol drums here in the shop so today I went and bought 110 gallons of diesel to use later this summer when the price goes over $4.50 a gallon. Figured that would be a way to cut some travel costs when the price gets really high.

That and the track where I plan to race the most is 70 miles away. So it looks like it takes about 11 gallons of diesel for the 140 mile round trip to Eastside Speedway and that means that with two drums, I can make 10 trips with the fuel I have here now.

Diesel here has hit $4 a gallon. [-( Regular gas is $3.69 and premium is $3.89. I paid $10.75 a gallon for C-12 last week. Still don't have a price on methanol for this year yet.

Just hang on Barry. It's going to get much worse before it gets better. Rick may get his wish, ie, he posted this down in the "Off Topic Discussion" section on 5/28/2011

Gas prices still aren't high enough.

Back in 2008 Democrats were screaming that Bush and Cheney were responsible for high gas prices but now Oblamo is saying it's not HIS fault? :- Looks like he's going to suffer the same as Republicrats did in 08 as his approval rating is now down from 50% last month to 41% now and high gas prices seem to be the reason. The old saying is that "what goes around comes around" and it's coming around now. ;-)

I ended up buying a 2K Honda generator, and going back to my Suburban to tow with until the weather gets too warm. Even just a 100 mile trip in the motorhome eats up fuel.
