We run 4.56 and 29.5x9x15. On a great weather day the shift light (6500) around 6.80. comes on at the 1/8th finish line. We run the same set up on the 1/4 and it hits about 7200 10.74 is our best.

Studebaker is 3500 lbs wet. It's got a pump gas 434 SBC in it, a Glide with a 1:96 low, 33" tires and a 5:13 rear gear.

Quarter mile speeds were around 134 @ 7700 RPM and eight mile were 106 @ around 7K RPM. That car was under geared for the eight mile and over geared for the quarter, ie, should have had a 5:38 for eight mile and a 4:88 for quarter mile.

You want to be careful on how much gear you add with the turbo 350, It will hit the tire harder and make the launch more violent and possibly make it inconsistent. I would be willing to bet there would be minimal gains going any deeper with the gears.

How fast is the car?

Ken I think he would run out of RPM with those gears. unless he runs a 33' tire. I don't know what motor, shift points or tire size though.

Yeah Steve that 5:13 can be a little deep for some. That's why I mentioned the 33" tires on the Studebaker as he didn't say what tire he has on that car.

On the highway I have to run 3500 RPM to run with traffic @ 55/58 MPH. =; On the expressway everyone is passing me except when I do those "short bursts"! ;-) \:D/

I do think I'd run the eight mile it a time or two to see where you are with the 4:56. I'm guessing that it's going to be around 6600/6800.

Is this a Phord rear?

What is the MPH @ the stripe?

Jeff here's a link to some automotive calculators that may help you in your search for the proper gear.

My guess is that you'll probably need at least 5:13 in that car but I wouldn't do anything until I ran it eight mile and checked where you are RPM wise.

My 55 is around 3200 lb and i run a 5.14 with 33 tires. When it was blown i ran a 6.00 gear in it.
