can mild steel be welded to chrome moly?

Do a Google.com search for "can I weld chromoly steel to mild steel" and you'll get a ton of info back but to answer your question, yes it can. ;-)

Yes. the front part of our cage is that way. The roll bar is mild steel Then we had to get the cage finished to pass tech. That is chrome moly. You have to use a tig welder. That is what the guy putting in the cage said.

Just like they said, yes. It MUST be tig welded though, and no matter what you are building it for, the fastest it can certify is 7.50 because of the mild steel. Anything faster has to be all moly.
