We're looking at possibly changing the combo on our Studie and need some idea of what a guesstemate on what the weight difference will be.

The old combo runs a typical chevy 355, iron block and heads, with a turbo 350 tranny.

Looking to change to 496 big block, iron block, alum. heads, with a glide.  Know how much and which direction that will move our total weight just from the powertrain?

i saw this thread yesterday & thought somebody would of chimed in earlier but here is my guess & its only a guesstimate

at a guess i would say it will add about 120Lbs & the majority will be on the nose of the car

this is only my guesstimate based on the difference between the Sml & big block weight difference & the fact that the transmission will stay in the original position pushing the front of the engine further foward

regards
rod

I thought a SBC was about 525 lbs and a BBC was around 670-680 lbs. Aluminum heads should knock off about 75 lbs on a BBC
Dunno for sure, but I had looked into this a bit a while ago

Been a long time but seems both of these guestamates are close. Around 150lbs cast to cast and aluminum heads save about 75lbs,  Not all blocks are the same. When we ran the hemi, a Petty block was around 40lbs heavier than a Mopar block and when you picked up the Donovan you cold do it with one hand.

Sounds good on the block.  Figure the glide to be 20-40 lbs. lighter than the 350 turbo?
