Greetings, I've visited this site for a few years and finally decided to register. I've been a drag racer since the late 60's and currently run a 70 Nova with mostly outdated parts. My interest in learning will bring me to this forum at least once a day and who knows, maybe I'll be able to contribute something too.

Yeah, I know. Tuner used to send me over here to read something years ago, but I never took the time to register. I've got a 80186 to calm down for a guy and thought I might need to ask a question or two, so I got motivated to register.

Yea I like it "old school" love the old blue Holley regulator, ball valve, hiding any wire nuts =; ;-) \:D/ \:D/ .....

OK what's the hose at the middle of the base plate :-s

Vacuum gauge would be my guess.

The hose in the base plate is my manifold vacuum source for the evac system. I run a pan vacuum gauge and pull about 6 inches without using a vacuum pump. It's nice to cut the engine off and watch how long it takes for the needle to drop.

The ball valve in the front of the intake is to drain water from the intake. If I need to cool it quickly, I can pour water through the radiator and open that valve. I can easily go from 210 to 130 in less than 5 minutes without using the water pump or fan. I've had guys think it's a hidden bottle line, but it ain't. I take some verbal abuse for the dual plane intake sometimes also.

I like it, although I have to admit, I am a little prejudice, that's my favorite body style.....I have two 69 Novas. One is a street legal 427, the other is a tube chassis that I bought as a roller and I am still trying to get it to the track. ](*,) :-

Can you tell us a little more about your combo?

Thanks for asking, I like your avatar pic. My car was an SS car and still has the stock front sub frame, control arms and steering. The engine is a std bore 427, 13.5:1 BBC with some heavy Manley pistons, Manley steel rods, GM crank, Comp solid roller 702/702 264/270, GM 14011077 C-port head with 2.25 and 1.88's, HEI ignition, Edelbrock C-454 dual plane and a 9375 Dominator. 400 trans and a 488 12 bolt. The car weight in '82 was about 2650 w/o driver. Best run with this engine is 9.87 in fair air. I restrict it a little to stay out of the 9's. We had a 468 in it back in the early 80's and it ran a best of 9.51 and 142.57. Everything in the engine is from the early '80's except the cam, lifters and YT rockers. I'm seriously looking at some Brodix heads to lower the compression ratio so I can run pump gas. I can't handle $10 per gallon for race fuel.

I've talked to Mark about E-85 quite a few times and I haven't ruled it out, but pump gas would be much more convenient to deal with.

I'm hoping that the better flowing Brodix head will offset the 2.5 point reduction in static compression. There are mixed opinions on the possibility of this plan working.
