Hi Boys & Girls,
I am new here and hope to learn and maybe even contribute. I have a 65 GTO. Info on it can be found here: http://www.pontiaczone.com/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=379
It has been suggested that I get to know jmarkaudio and shrinker to help me with my switch to E85. Help from anyone is appreciated. I tend to be frugal/cheap and like to know why/how something works so I can see if I can modify what I have to work. I am in the process of upgrading the car to hopefully get asked to leave the track for breaking 10.00 and would like to be able to run 6.20's in the 1/8. =; I look forward to getting to know you/share info/have a good laugh and promoting PONTIAC POWER!

Welcome again Phillygoat and I hope you enjoy your time here. If you follow one of the links in my signature you'll see that I've been "diverse" in car ownership in my younger years owning and Oldsmobile and a GTO although the Goat had 331 Chevy power, a Chrysler 4 speed tranny and 4:88 Chevelle 12 bolt rear end. I always did like the look of those 65 cars though.

Barry, maybe he was LATE instead of early? =; It was Friday night ya know and not everyone goes to bed with the chickens like you. ;-)

I was thinking the same thing around 7:30 this morning when I read it. Chickens go to bed?

Yeah Chuck, chickens roost but it's still bed to them. ;-) And they do that when the sun goes down, like Barry. =; But in his defense, I had a job once and had to be at work at 7am so I was up @ 5:30 each work day morning which meant that I was in bed early as well. ;-)

The Mopar rearend was waaay cheaper and stronger than a 12bolt. =; I picked up the original 3.91 Suregrip 742 pumpkin for $25! =D> Couldn't beat that!!!

I'd argue some of that point a bit! There's not even a Pro Gear made for an 8 3/4 742 rear but there was an after market "pumpkin" built by one of the major manufacturers (Strange I think) years ago using 12 bolt gear and there IS a Pro Gear made for a 12 bolt now. It's a known fact that a Pro Gear will hold up better in a drag car application than a street gear so there's virtually no way an 8 3/4 gear can be stronger than a Pro Gear 12 bolt. Cheaper, yes! Stronger, I doubt it. ;-) But yeah, cheap is good as long as it will LAST! \:D/ Be honest now, how many have you broken in the last 5 years? ;-)

FYI, I've got a 9 inch Pro Gear in my car now that survived a REVERSE gear change at over 7600 RPM and over 120MPH 2 years ago and it's still in one piece today! Bent the driveshaft but didn't break the gear set! And that is in a 2500 lb car that had run low 5.40s at over 125MPH. =; Ok, so now it'll break next week! =;

Just saying........................... ;-)
