I reworked a non HP 850 for someone here in Florida. He started out with a 4781 and bought a Proform body for it, leaving the 850 body bare. I took it and cut the choke off, picked up all the parts to convert it to E85. He went to Gainesville yesterday to run it for the first time, the weather was pretty good, his first passes on gas was the best the car had ever run at 11.13. He swapped the fuel and carb, first pass with E85 was a 10.92, second a 10.91. I was surprised it picked up that much, but happy to hear it did and not to mention $16 for 5 gallons of fuel... There may be some time in it with a little tuning, but it was a calibration we had found to work well on the dyno mule.

We have, just not on the dyno mule to see how it responds to changes. I have a similar setup in the 1050 I ran on my SB2 a few weeks ago, but have nothing but a gas carb to compare it to and with the SB2 the efficiency, higher stall converter and the gear is so high I would expect gas to be better. E85 seems to make better torque below peak, if the gear and/or converter are not optimum E85 will normally shine. This car is a Firebird with a Pontiac engine and is mostly run in sportsman, a real good candidate and not to mention the improvement in consistency he will see. It was nice to see a real world look at the changes, I would not have expected it to pick up what it did. It was .04 quicker in the 60', .10 better at the 330'.
