Well I am ready to make the switch this Saturday 6/30..And have a couple of questions on the prep before the switch..
1---Should I change the plugs ??
I suck at reading them but what would I be looking for as far as rich/lean?
2---I am going to pull the foam out and flush the system with the e85 I got that tested low and I would
assume just leave the fuel pressure the same at 15 at the pump and 6 at the carb..
3---What should the EGT be??? And O2 on the gas scale..
I am sure there are other questions and if there are things to look for please post them..
Just a little worried about it as I don't want to do damage to it as it's running real good and constant
as last night it ran 4 runs all with 1.17 short times and 6.964 to a 6.967... It is just a heat problem with it and it just takes to long to cool down so hope the E85 will help with the issue and also the price of fuel as 5 gal here is 58 bucks..

Use fresh plugs, but don't expect to read anything on them for several passes other than the heat line on the strap. Loosing the foam is good, fuel pressure is fine to start. Monitor EGT's but don't tune by them, O2 info in the other thread. After you make a couple runs jet up, go .004 to ..006 at a time until you slow MPH, then back down half at a time to get to best MPH. Cooling will not be an issue. :-$

Mine is at 1180 with lambda at .80. It normally sits about 850 at idle, climbs to around 950-1000 at the hit then nice steady rise from 60' to 1/8 mile then stays there the rest of run.

AJ isn't that .80 a tad on the rich side? I don't have the numbers in front of me now but I believe that I'm around .82 on methanol? :-k Or are you running it rich for consistency?

I'm running it a bit rich as its most consistent there.

I've read that methanol is suppose to do the same thing but don't have any data to back that up.

Well I am ready to fire it up as I cleaned the fuel cell and flushed all the gas out of it and removed
the tank so it's all clean and ready..I am off on Tuesday so may just make the trip to Spring Valley NY
and get me some fuel and I will test it before I buy 25 gallons..
Hope this works out and If it don't go any faster but runs cooler and is constant this will be a win win
for me not even thinking about the cost being $3.30 a gallon instead of $11.00 bucks a gallon for race fuel.......

I just went back and checked our E85 dyno pulls. Our best power came at about .810 or so lambda. I checked the pulls with two different carbs.

nope. Just go make some noise. Oh, be prepared for the stink. You'll get used to it.

Stink???? What does it smell like??? :-#

Oh and one more question....85% is the best but what is also acceptable as far as a percent???

I'm used to the smell now. The first time Mark ran it I couldn't believe the smell. Even after a long hot shower I could smell it in my imagination, if that's possible. Once, I equated the smell to running good race cars I was alright.

E85 cheep fast all good.

race gas expensive fast maybe not so good

How about running a fragrance in it? :-k I know guys that do methanol like that. I don't because the stuff is toxic and you don't want to breath any more of it than necessary. Methanol is what you get a snoot full of at NHRA races when they start and warm up a fuel engine. ;-)
