Well, yesterday I ordered the parts I need to fix the tranny in the Dodge........AGAIN! Plan is to have those part here in the shop and I'll drive it until the "rig" job I did horks up. O:) \:D/

Who knows, with the repair parts being here it might not ever hork up again, hey!! At least that's what hope. ;-)

Well, after two phone calls a week apart I finally got those tranny parts today! Nice service, hey!

Up side is that these parts were about $150 cheaper than the other quote I got so I guess it was worth the wait, especially since I haven't needed them yet. ;-)

Well, my hearing must be getting much better as the last time out the Dodge "seemed" to be making even more noise in 5th gear. It's been 2 years now since I did that "rig" job on it and to be honest, I've been getting somewhat gun shy as I've been making long trips and don't want it to lay down on me in North Carolna.

So, last Saturday I started pulling that beast out. Didn't work on it Sunday as I went to visit my grand sons then Faye and I spent some quality time together. Then Monday I got hit with the hives again and slept most of the afternoon.

Tuesday I felt pretty good so worked on it and finally got both the transfer case and the transmission out.

Today I got on it early and did the swap over with the new parts and tomorrow I'll be putting it back in the truck.

FWIW, when I pulled the back cover off that "rig" job was still holding and I like to never got that nut off. If I had known what condition it was in I'd have never pulled it down! ;-) She will be right now though and I won't have to worry about it anymore!

For those of you who have never seen the "rig job" that New Venture did on the NV4500 5 speed OD transmission that came in Dodge trucks from late 1993 until early 1998, here's a couple of pictures of mine.

Oh, and BTW, that nut on the mainshaft is actually TWO nuts welded together. And yes, this is what it looked like when I pulled the back cover off it.

Notice that 5th gear over drive is just an add on hanging off the rear of the case with NO support on the main shaft except for the splined coupler that hooks it to the transfer case?

I had to replace the main shaft and that 5th gear along with the rear bearing in the back end of the case.
